SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 5 ASD Support – Westminster / Kilburn


Enrich Education Recruitment is working in partnership with a lovely, inclusive primary school in the Westminster / Kilburn area to appoint an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil with ASD.


This role is to start immediately and would suit a confident, resilient and emotionally intelligent SEN TA who has strong experience supporting pupils with autism, behaviour needs and social, emotional or communication difficulties.


This is an excellent opportunity to join a caring and supportive primary school with a strong inclusive ethos, where staff work closely together to ensure pupils feel safe, understood and able to access learning.


The Role


You will be supporting a Year 5 boy with ASD on a 1:1 basis, helping him access learning, manage transitions, regulate emotions and engage positively throughout the school day.


The successful candidate will need to be calm, consistent and proactive, with the confidence to draw on previous SEN experience to manage different situations effectively.


You will play a key role in:


Supporting a Year 5 pupil with ASD on a 1:1 basis

Helping the pupil access classroom learning and structured activities

Using a trauma-informed approach to behaviour and emotional regulation

Supporting transitions, routines and changes throughout the school day

De-escalating situations calmly and professionally when required

Building trust, rapport and positive boundaries with the pupil

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider inclusion team

Adapting support based on the pupil’s needs, presentation and triggers

Encouraging independence, confidence and positive learning behaviours

Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional wellbeing

The Ideal Candidate


The school is looking for an experienced SEN TA who can bring confidence, maturity and strong behaviour support skills to the role.


You should be able to:


Remain calm and consistent under pressure

Use a trauma-informed and relational approach

Understand that behaviour is communication

Build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries

Anticipate triggers and adapt support accordingly

Use de-escalation strategies effectively

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and parents/carers

Support learning without creating dependency

Reflect on what works and adjust your approach when needed


Requirements


To be considered for this role, you must have:


Experience supporting pupils with ASD

Experience managing behaviour in a primary or specialist setting

A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice

Confidence working 1:1 with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour

Strong communication and teamwork skills

A calm, patient and proactive approach

Reliability, resilience and emotional intelligence

A genuine commitment to inclusive education


Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:


Zones of Regulation

Social stories

Sensory regulation strategies

Positive handling training

Team Teach or equivalent behaviour training

SEMH or trauma-informed support
